And because Google is running its business using Linux - the free open source software that has become the biggest challenger of Windows - Microsoft is concerned that it may be at a competitive disadvantage. “Based on their visceral reactions to any discussions about ‘open source,’ ” Mr. Schmidt wrote in his e-mail message, “they are obsessed with open source as a business model.”
