Greetings from Ho Chi Minh City

June 26, 2010

Shinjoung and I landed in Ho Chi Minh City last night and are staying a couple of days at Madam Cuc’s hotel. We went out exploring today and this is the first thing we saw:

Traffic in Ho Chi Minh City

We had some delicious soup, gluttonous rice wrapped in banana leaf, sour not-quite-ripe mango dipped in salt and hot pepper and of course plenty of strong iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk. We’ll upload some photos shortly so stay tuned.

All of this food sounds great (and the salty-spicy mango sounds totally ¡mexicano!), and we understand completely why the rice might be called “gluttonous” — but wait, wait: how did the banana pancakes in Hue turn out? The people want to know!

The pancakes were delicious, almost like Swedish pancakes with the crispy edges. Been eating tons of fruit like jackfruit, rambutan, pineapple (which isn’t quite as sweet as Hawaiian pineapple but delicious just the same). mmmmm!
